The 2011 Young Adults’ Choices list is created by U.S. teenagers (grades 7–12) and it is annually updated. The project began in 1986 and it is funded by a special grant given to the International Reading Association and it is supported by the Association’s Literature for Young Adults Committee. The goals of the project are as follows: to encourage young people to read, to make teens, teachers, librarians, and parents aware of new literature for young adults. The list also provides middle and secondary school students with an opportunity to voice their opinions about books being written for them. I thought this book list was very informative since the teenagers are able to voice their opinions. It’s great to get a look into what teenagers are reading and what they actually want to read. The book list contains mostly fictional literature. I thought this list can be very useful since teenagers helped to create it and it really shows what they are interested in reading or what they have read.
